COURSE OUTLINE
6TH GRADE

6TH GRADE COURSE TOPICS

UNIT 1 : ​Safety and Camera Equipment

​Students will understand and follow safety procedures when working with TV equipment.
Students will learn the fundamentals of the camera equipment as well as setting up a camera equipment for production.
Students will be required to complete an Equipment Test in order to use the equipment.

UNIT 2 : Production Process

Preproduction
​
Planning, story boarding, script writing using the writing process. Students will learn how to plan, draw, and script directions and dialogue, representing the shots planned for a movie or television production. 
Production
Filming, on air performance, basic lighting, the correct use and care of video equipment, the parts of a camera, basic audio concepts. Students will learn how to film using basic camera shots, shot composition, and camera movements.
Post Production
​
Editing audio/video, basic special effects and continuity. Students will learn the fundaments of editing. Students will have several projects that will include different lessons that will teach them valuable concepts used in the video production industry. 
​

UNIT 3 : Shot Composition

Students will learn various shot compositions and their importance.
PROJECT : Shot Composition Project

UNIT 4 : Green Screen

Students will learn how to use a green screen. Students will recreate commercials to practice keying out green backgrounds and continue to work on editing techniques.
PROJECT : Twizzler Green Screen Project

UNIT 5 : Advertising

Students will learn how to advertise and promote their work. Students will create a 60 second advertising commercial that will effectively impact and persuade an audience to buy their product.

UNIT 6 : Public Service Announcement

Students will research and produce a PSA to communicate effectively and raise awareness about a health, safety, or environmental issue.
​Students will understand how the choices they make as producers affect the message and how it is interpreted by the viewer.
