COURSE OUTLINE
​8TH GRADE

8TH GRADE COURSE TOPICS

​UNIT 1 : ​Safety and Camera Equipment

Students will understand and follow safety procedures when working with TV equipment.
Students will learn the fundamentals of the camera equipment as well as setting up a camera equipment for production.
Students will be required to complete an Equipment Test in order to use the equipment.

UNIT 2 : ​Production Process

Preproduction
​
Planning, story boarding, script writing using the writing process. Students will learn how to plan, draw, and script directions and dialogue, representing the shots planned for a movie or television production. ​​
Production
Filming, on air performance, basic lighting, the correct use and care of video equipment, the parts of a camera, basic audio concepts. Students will learn how to film using basic camera shots, shot composition, and camera movements.
Post Production
​
Editing audio/video, basic special effects and continuity. Students will learn the fundaments of editing. Students will have several projects that will include different lessons that will teach them valuable concepts used in the video production industry.

UNIT 3 : Green Screen

Students will learn how to use a green screen. Students will recreate commercials to practice keying out green backgrounds and continue to work on editing techniques. 
PROJECT : Twizzler Green Screen Project

UNIT 4 : Stop Motion

Students will learn how to create stop motion videos using camera and editing techniques.

UNIT 5 : News Report

Students will create their very own news program complete with a weather report and commercial breaks. They will explore writing, reporting, operating a video camera, and using digital tools such as chroma-key. This lesson will spark their interest in reporting facts and writing for a purpose.

UNIT 6 : Special Effects

Students will learn different camera and editing techniques to produce amazing effects including self cloning, teleporting, stop motion, and freeze frame.
PROJECT : Ultimate Challenge Project
