CAMERA ANGLES

Camera angles are used in film to convey a perspective and an emotion rather than exemplify a sense of space. Before filming, cinematographers will write out their shot list in order to plan how each scene of their film should be shot.

LOW ANGLE

Used to make your subject appear larger and portray power, dominance, or wonder.
Picture

HIGH ANGLE

  • Used to make your subject appear smaller
  • Portrays subject as weak vulnerable and inferior.
Picture

DUTCH ANGLE

  • Tilt horizon of your frame
  • Portrays an uneasy emotion like something is wrong
Picture

OVER THE SHOULDER ANGLE

  • When two subjects are talking to one another and you put the camera behind the shoulder of one of the subjects
  • Portrays the feeling that you are being the person being talked to
Picture

POINT OF VIEW (POV) ANGLE

  • Shows what a character is looking at
  • Allows the viewer to take on the perspective of the character and understand their state of mind on a more personal level
Picture

CUTAWAY ANGLE

  • An interruption of a continuously filmed scene by inserting a view of completely different.
  • Great to help transition to new scenes or show side stories at the same time
